Congratulations to the 2020 Health Care Heroes in Louisville!
Louisville’s Business First Recognizes the Contributions of Top Health Care Professionals in KY
Members of the Louisville business community recognized leading health care professionals at the Louisville Business First's 2020 Health Care Heroes banquet this month.
There was a full house of Health Care executives who attended the banquet at the Galt House. Scott Requadt, CEO of Talaris Therapeutics Inc., headlined the event, and the 2020 Health Care Heroes Lifetime Achievement award given to Debbie McGrath, the executive director and a founder of the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana. McGrath has led the organization for 25 years. Also at the event was Tammy York Day, the president and CEO of the Louisville Healthcare CEO Council. Altogether, 31 Health Care Hero Awards went to leaders in our community.
The 2020 Health Care Heroes are now the fourth class of award recipients since the program started in 2017. Health care jobs make up nearly 10% of employment in Louisville, and the awards help recognize that the health care industry is vital to the regional economy and celebrate "people who make a difference in our community."
Talaris, a Louisville-based biotech firm, was featured in the Keynote Address for developing a treatment for organ transplantation that allows patients to live without immunosuppressive drugs. Talaris treatment uses the research of Dr. Suzanne Ildstad and her team at the Institute for Cellular Therapeutics at the University of Louisville. "Talaris is currently in clinical trials treating severe autoimmune disorders and treating those who have already had a kidney transplant."
