Bio
Hello my name is Hanan Tanious. I'm currently working as a caregiver for BrightStar Care. I am a wife and a mother of three adults now; a daughter 35, two sons one who is 33 and one who is 27. I have three pets one male 10 months Shepherd Siberian husky puppy, two cats one is a male 3-year-old tabby and the other is a female 12-year-old calico. I have lived in Simi Valley for 36 years. I graduated with a business major from Pierce college. I worked in banking and home loans for 25 years. I am proud that at the age of 57 years old I was able to start a new career for myself. I hope to accomplish and work another 5 years with this company. I will strive to achieve another employee of the month 😊. I enjoy playing cards, coloring, playing pool, listening to music, and binge-watching Touched by An Angel with my husband. I think my area of expertise that shows my skills are that I have stamina for long workdays, and I have great time management. My problem-solving skills are excellent and I'm very observant, reliable, and clean!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A CAREGIVER?
I've been a caregiver for 5 years as of December 2022.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME AN CAREGIVER?
Becoming a caregiver was motivated by seeing other caregivers care for my mother and I would like to help others in that way. I adore older adults and I feel I can get along well with a variety of elders. I enjoy working with people and am most fond of jobs where I can have one-on-one interactions with others.
WHAT ASPECT OF YOUR JOB ARE YOU MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT?
The aspect of my job that I am most passionate about is all that I do. I try to put the needs of my clients first and I'm able to take charge when it's necessary. I am attentive and I respond to any situation in a timely manner. I'm flexible and know how to empathize for my BrightStar clients.
HOW ARE YOU MAKING MORE POSSIBLE FOR YOUR BRIGHTSTAR CLIENTS?
I'm making more things possible for my BrightStar clients by learning to ask for help, exercising to be more compassionate, and being more patient. I try to use more encouraging words, becoming more of an active listener, be more respectful, and do what the clients love to do.
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER CAREGIVERS?
The advice I have for other caregivers are the important tips I have learned from other caregivers and things that I've done that have helped me become a better version of myself. Learn how to communicate more effectively with your client. Take care of yourself first before you can take care of others. Acknowledge your client’s limitations and understand that it's very important to treat them as people, and not as patients. Accept help from other caregivers or staff team members with whom you work. Be realistic about the client's conditions and or their needs. Learn how to provide proper and physical care for your clients. Be open to learning and trying new methods of care since things are changing and evolving every day. Stay up to date and try to always stay connected with the outside world and your loved ones. You should always try to be neat, clean, organized, and on time. Individually coordinate the care for each client by scheduling the tasks you need to do.
TELL US YOUR FAVORITE CAREGIVING MOMENT/STORY
The story of my favorite caregiving moment was more of a beautiful memory that I hold and cherish. I remember the time that I took my client to an appointment where she had to get a procedure done. When we got inside the room she turned and looked over with such fright in her eyes. I held out my hand and she grabbed it. She then squeezed my hand, and I squeezed back to let her know that everything was going to be fine. She then looked me in the eyes with a huge smile and a sense of relief. It made me feel so grateful that a small gesture made her frown turn upside down! At that moment I knew that she was more comfortable to proceed because I was by her side. It made my day that I was able to help her face her fears and get through everything she needed to do ❤.
HOW DO YOU RE-ENERGIZE?
To boost my energy naturally when I need to re-energize, I try to control my stress by lightening my load, prioritizing the important things, and delegating the insignificant duties. I use caffeine to my advantage, and I eat regularly to gain energy. Throughout the entire day and night, I try to drink as much water as possible.
