In her nomination letter, Virginia said that Maddison makes it possible for her to “be happy in (her) own home.” Describing Maddison as bright, cheery and fun to be around, Miss G., as Maddison lovingly calls her, also praises her commitment to safety – which is essential due to her being nearly blind. Nomination Letter
Written by the client, Virginia H.My first impression was that Maddison was bright and exuberant; she was giving and willing to do anything, and she is very intelligent. Nothing ever throws her and I have come up with some doozies!
She is my eyes. She does everything on the computer because I can’t read anymore. I am almost fully blind so she color-organizes for me and picks out my outfits. She helps me go through things and helps with mail and emails. She runs errands for me and knows what I need even before I do – she’s Johnny on the spot!
She’s working with me on helping me gain my independence back. Anything I ask of her (unless it’s illegal, unethical, or harmful), she’d do it for me. She always just knows what I need. She is so good with technology and so good at helping me, almost instantaneously, and we accomplish so much. She’s always so bright and cheery. I always ask if she needs anything, but she always says she is good and happy. She brightens my day just being around her.
Right now, my vision is deteriorating. I see very little most days. Maddison is so intuitive. She is so smart and comes up with ideas and looks up things to help me. She’s so patient with me and describes things to me. I’ve never had someone who’s done this for me.
She helped me go through my apps on my phone and iPad, she knows what is good for me and what isn’t. She helps me come up with solutions I never would have thought of. She’s one of a kind. She always finds the solution. Maddison is so fun to be with, I love having her here to just chat with, too! My husband passed a little over a year ago so it can feel lonely here sometimes, but she makes it okay. She’s always so happy and bright, she just fills the house with light.
Maddison did research to try to get me a seeing eye dog. I didn’t qualify for that, so we decided to try to get a service dog instead. She found Red Paws Farm which is local and the trainer there started looking for a dog. When Maddison and I went to meet Millie for the first time, I had no idea what I was getting into. I’ve had dogs before, but never a service dog, so I was nervous.
Maddison made me take my rollator, which I don’t like taking, but she always makes sure I’m safe. We parked and it was gravelly, so she made me sit on my rollator because she was nervous about how the dog would be. Millie was wonderful, she was very sweet and such a good girl. It didn’t work out long-term, but I am so grateful for the care that Maddison did and always does to take of me. I am also so grateful to have been able to have that experience. There’s so much that is hard for me to do because I can’t see but she makes it all possible. She is so cautious and thoughtful of my experiences. She treats me like family. She is my family in spirit!
Maddison has greatly impacted my life. I depend on her for things I can’t do anymore. I can’t see, so she takes care of me. Who knows where I’d be without her? She is my eyes. There are things with her help that I am able to do that I wouldn’t be able to do without her.
I’d have to be in a facility without her. I am able to be happy in my own home because of her. She helps me survive independently and she puts a smile on my face.
