Special Needs Child Care

Although BrightStar® Home Care is most often known for the in-home services we provide to seniors, we also take our compassion and high-quality care into the homes of those with infants and children who have special needs, such as intellectual or developmental disabilities, spina bifida, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. We can also help with child care needs for parents who are disabled and need a little extra support.

Caring for your littlest loved ones is a privilege. We promise to earn your trust by providing compassionate care that meets the highest quality standards. Led by a Registered Nurse (RN), our home care professionals are fully-screened, certified, licensed and trained to meet the unique needs of your family.

Special Needs Home Care Services

Our goal as care professionals is to ensure that children with disabilities and special needs are receiving the care they need and the support they deserve. Experienced care professionals are ready to assist with:

  • Bath visits
  • Feeding
  • Transferring/Repositioning
  • Dressing
  • Grooming
  • Oral and personal hygiene
  • Toileting
  • Reporting conditions and changes to supervisory RN and/or Physician

BrightStar Care focuses on a holistic approach that supports both medical and daily living needs for children with disabilities and their families. Caring for a child with complex medical needs can be overwhelming. Having a compassionate team of medical experts on your side can make a world of difference. Our in-home pediatric nursing staff is able to provide care for children with a variety of conditions, including:

  • Autism: A home health aide for a child with autism helps provide support with activities of daily living (ADLs), as well as support in bridging development gaps. BrightStar Care professionals can also assist your family in navigating educational and behavioral health systems to help bolster your child’s support system and help them learn, develop skills and thrive.
  • Down Syndrome: Children with Down Syndrome can benefit from an in-home pediatric nurse, receiving care for their special needs, as well as support in developing skills for independent living as they age. Our pediatric nurses can monitor hearing, vision, heart health and more for children with Down Syndrome.
  • Cerebral Palsy: BrightStar Care pediatric nurses provide in-home care for the entire spectrum of medical complexities stemming from Cerebral Palsy. Our highly-skilled care providers are able to assist with feeding, mobility, and bathroom support as well as assisting with communication and relationship-building.

BrightStar Care can also provide pediatric nursing care* for more advanced medical needs, as well as administer a wide range of therapies* such as speech, physical and autism therapy.

Our in-home care providers also offer respite care for family caregivers. If your family does not necessarily need continuous in-home care, many families caring for children with special needs could use a break. Respite care gives parents and family caregivers time to rest and tend to other duties, knowing their child is in compassionate, capable hands.
