Elder Abuse Prevention, Investigation and Reporting in Oregon

New Online Elder Abuse Prevention Course Helps Senior Care Providers Prevent Abuse and Neglect

Elder abuse and neglect are more prevalent than you think, and older adults are especially vulnerable. Everyone has a duty to ensure the protection of older adults and to make abuse prevention a top priority. Oregon Care Partners now provides a free online training, designed specifically for Oregon’s caregivers, that focuses on how to prevent, recognize and report elder abuse. Older adults depend on you to keep them safe. Learn what you need to do to fulfill your responsibility and to protect those you care for every day.

After completing this training, you will be able to:
  • Define abuse and identify types of abuse and neglect
  • Understand why older adults are vulnerable and learn to recognize the signs or indicators of abuse and neglect
  • Identify mandatory reporters and understand your responsibility to report suspected and confirmed occurrences of abuse
  • Identify ways to prevent abuse or neglect
  • Understand the role of Adult Protective Services and how to use the abuse reporting system
This online class was developed in collaboration with the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) Aging and People with Disabilities Safety, Oversight and Quality Unit and Adult Protective Services and aligns with the Oregon assisted living and residential care Abuse Reporting and Investigation Guide for Providers.
