A man is traveling the country mowing lawns for veterans, seniors, and people living with disabilities.
“His mission is to do something for others that they may not be able to do for themselves.”
Rodney Smith Jr. is traveling the country and working with police to help mow lawns for those in need. Smith Jr. first started mowing lawns for free in 2015, and recently visited Oregon as part of his sixth 50-state tour. Smith visited 90-year-old Ramona Baurer's home in Portland. Baurer has lived at the same home in southwest Portland for more than 50 years, and struggles with the upkeep of her yard. "I've done a lot but I can only do so much at a time," Baurer said.
Smith Jr. is making a difference and impacting seniors’ lives, allowing them to save money they might have spent for a lawn care company, for items they really need. Smith includes the police to help his efforts, and the Portland police also helped to mow Baurer’s lawn along with Smith. "There's many ways to make a difference, I've chosen a lawnmower to make a difference with, and I hope to encourage kids around the world to make a difference one lawn at a time," Smith Jr. said.
