BrightStar Care offers both skilled and non-skilled (personal/companion care) in-home services. BrightStar Care is committed to providing a higher level of care, a commitment demonstrated by their director of Nursing. Lindsey, the director of Nursing for the Spokane office, manages the care of both skilled and non-skilled clients. She visits each client personally before beginning services and conducts a thorough assessment of both the client and their home. With Lindsey being a Registered Nurse, she can identify health issues early and help families address them before they become emergencies. She also customizes the care plan to monitor any health concerns she identifies. One notable example of this process involved a new client, Gloria Meyers, who granted permission to share her story.
Gloria Meyers contacted BrightStar Care to inquire about their personal and companion services. At 99 years old, Gloria is active and full of life, wanting to remain in her own home. She sought assistance from BrightStar Care with daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, and laundry, particularly looking forward to taking bubble baths again in her large soak tub. She recently had developed a sharp pain in her right leg which made it both difficult and dangerous to get in and out of her soak tub. Gloria's daughter, Kim, was also eager to have an extra set of eyes on her mother’s wellbeing.
During the initial visit, Lindsey measured Gloria’s vital signs as part of her routine assessment and found Gloria's blood pressure to be dangerously high—so high that Lindsey described it as "stroke level high." Lindsey immediately informed Gloria and Kim, recommending they see a doctor immediately for medication to lower her blood pressure. Thankfully, Kim quickly arranged an appointment where the doctor confirmed the dangerously high blood pressure and prescribed medication. Furthermore, Lindsey tailored Gloria's care plan to monitor her blood pressure, helping to provide additional data points to the family and doctors to help make better decisions on how to adjust the medication.
Already, Gloria’s blood pressure has begun to decrease, which has brought additional benefits. Gloria now has more energy and reports a reduction in the leg pain. She even mentioned she could do the "Cha-Cha" again! Both Kim and Gloria are grateful for reaching out to BrightStar Care. Kim remarked, “That call might have just saved my Mother’s life.”
