Richmond Seniors and Caregiving During the Holidays

Holidays are times to be documented and a time for nostalgia and memory making. It is a time when family and friends gather together to celebrate and spend time together. These are times spent that will usually be looked upon lovingly later. When it comes to Richmond seniors who are diagnosed with cancer, the holidays can bring about a mixture of feelings for them as well as their loved ones and caregivers. The caregiver may have added stress with the planning of responsibilities, all while not wanting to be overbearing so that all can enjoy making memories. While more challenging, it is still possible for one to enjoy the  holidays even while struggling with a tough medical diagnosis and suffering through side effects from medication and treatments.

There are many resources readily available for seniors who are struggling to create happy and lasting memories during the holidays and other special occasions, all the while powering through treatments and the side effects that accompany them. While difficult, it is not impossible to enjoy special family times together while coping with cancer, and the memories that can be made enjoyable will be of comfort to loved ones of Richmond seniors long after they are passed. Also, caregivers of those who are struggling through cancer need to and can find ways to take time for themselves during the holidays. Through support groups, therapy, and various reading materials, this is possible.

BrightStar Care of Richmond provides ‘Transitional Care’ following cancer treatment.  This is care provided following hospitalization or cancer treatment. We use an RN-led, team-oriented approach to optimize health and well being and reduce the likelihood of hospital readmission.
