You may be wondering what type of in-home care services your loved one needs. At BrightStar® Home Care North Suburban Chicago, we will discuss your family member’s needs and our Director of Nursing will create a personalized plan of care that falls into one or more of the categories below.
Companion Care
This in-home service provides general support to your loved one with an emphasis on their social and emotional needs. In addition to engaging conversations and activities that bring them joy, our caregivers also help with everyday tasks (sometimes called Activities of Daily Living – or ADLs):
- Conversation and activities based on their interests
- Transportation to and from appointments, activities and events
- Dementia support when they shouldn’t be alone
- Medication reminders
- Laundry and light housekeeping
- Errands and meal prep
- Help connecting with others through letters, email and social media
- Engagement in craft projects, reading, games or puzzles
- Respite for family caregivers
Personal Care
This category of service helps your family member with basic daily tasks, also known as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), that may require a little extra support. Although the main focus of these services is physical assistance, our home health aides are compassionate and attentive to each client’s emotional needs:
- Help with mobility in and outside of the home
- Feeding
- Support adherence to dietary requirements
- Oral and personal hygiene
- Bathing
- Dressing and grooming
- Help with toileting
- Outpatient pre- and post-op assistance
Skilled Nursing Care
Provided by Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) or Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), this in-home service category includes medical care such as catheter maintenance, wound care, medication management, blood draws and training for complex equipment such as ventilators. Nurses are able to meet many advanced care needs in order for your loved one to be able to remain in their home when receiving these services and treatments:
- Medication management and administration
- Wound care
- Blood draws and injections
- Central and peripheral intravenous drug therapy, such as chemotherapy
- Assistance with medical equipment including ventilators or oxygen tanks
- Administration and maintenance of catheters
- PICC line dressing changes
- Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), G-tube or other feedings
- Epidural mediports
- Physical, occupational or speech therapy
- Rehabilitation
