Cancer Treatment Management for Your Doylestown Senior
Management for Your Doylestown Senior’s Cancer Treatment
A cancer diagnosis can be very daunting and scary. As a result, trying to get organized and figure out treatment options can be too overwhelming for a North Bucks senior to figure out alone. Asking a friend or family member to accompany them to a doctor’s appointment for a second set of ears may be helpful. Having another person there to write notes about side effects from medication, which medications work best, and other treatment options, will make the hard process easier to manage.
As your senior’s caregiver, it would be helpful to your loved one with cancer if you did research on their diagnosis and compiled a list of potential treatments. Contacting your loved one’s nurse practitioner or doctor and getting a list of resources is a good place to start. When you do tag along on appointments, jotting down notes or bringing along a recorder would be helpful to refer to later for your senior. In the case that you want to discuss a matter without your loved one present, make yourself with the rules of HIPPA, so as not to break any privacy laws.
While you are assisting your senior with various physical needs such as helping with chores around the house, talk with your loved one’s healthcare provider about any specific instructions they may have about do’s and dont’s for physical activity, managing side effects to medications, diets, etc. Talk with your loved one and agree on a place to put their doctors information, in case either of you needs to call at any given time. For organization purposes, talk to your North Bucks senior’s doctor for ideas on medication management, ways to monitor side effects of the medication, and also to provide you with a list of various medical practitioner phone numbers for you to call, should you need assistance.
