The Vaccine Shingrix has demand far exceeding supply in Morris County

Two doses of Shingrix lowers the possibility of shingles by more than 90 percent and it is important for Morris County Seniors to get vaccinated.

Pharmacies in Bergen, Passaic and Morris Counties without the vaccine could not recommend any locations that did. Sean Clements, a spokesman for GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer said, “The demand has been unprecedented. There's no manufacturing issue here."

The Centers for Disease Control recommends Shingrix for every adult over age 50, except those with deficient immune systems.

Clements said, “That recommendation lowered the age and expanded the potential market. We are committed to expediting Shingrix resupply throughout 2018,"

Getting the chicken pox as a kid was an itchy annoyance, but it can turn into something much worse for seniors over 55.  The virus starts as spots similar to the chicken pox, but it comes with nerve pain that can linger for months afterwards, and in rare cases turn deadly.  Shingles are extremely common, and we have a one in three chance of developing the virus in our lifetime.

BrightStar Care of Morris County encourages Seniors to talk to thiner doctor about the vaccine.  For more information on how we support seniors CLICK HERE.
