Maryland Food Bank National numbers for seniors experiencing hunger nationally are above pre-Great Recession numbers: 7.7 percent in 2016 vs. 6.3 percent in 2007. Women make up nearly six in ten food-insecure seniors. 

According to the latest data, nearly 15% of Maryland’s population is over 65, and 5.5 percent of them are food insecure. This means that nearly 45,000 senior citizens in Maryland face hunger on a regular basis.
