October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it’s a reminder for all women to take charge of their health. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women across the US, making up roughly 30% of all new female cancers each year. Breast cancer most commonly occurs in women who are middle age and up. Around half of the women who develop breast cancer are in there early 60’s or younger when diagnosed. It is also the second leading cause of cancer death in women, only trailing behind lung cancer. However, if caught early on through regular screenings, breast cancer is highly treatable. There are numerous ways in which we can all help to increase awareness of breast cancer. The first is to wear pink, symbolic of the pink ribbon that serves as the international symbol for breast cancer. You can also donate to organizations or volunteer to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. Every small act of kindness counts and can help save lives. Most important is to take the time to learn and educate others on breast cancer. Let’s spread the word and encourage our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends to prioritize their physical wellbeing. Together, we can help to make a difference and bring hope to those facing breast cancer!
