Over the past few weeks Amarillo and Lubbock have had confirmed cases of COVID-19 with more expected to come. Nurses who work in epicenters have shared their stories of long hours and marked faces from personal protection equipment (PPE).

- Say Thank You. Scrubs are a clear sign of health care professional like a nurse or doctor. If you are visiting your local Market Street
- Donate blood. Now more than ever blood supplies in the South Plains is running low. Blood service mobile units are hosting a variety of events throughout Lubbock and Amarillo. Find the upcoming schedule here
- Coordinate unit meals. A good meal can give a nurse the energy to finish their shift strong. Coordinate facilities and units to see how you can have a meal or snacks donated.
- Think outside of hospitals. As you find ways to show your appreciation, remember nurses at assisted living facilities, nursing homes and home health. They typically work with some of the most vulnerable patients.
- Put your skills to use. Joann’s Fabrics and Crafts are offering free materials and patterns for anyone who knows how to sow. Find our more here.
- Stop stock piling. In Lubbock and Amarillo, tasks forces have been created to help locate and share high demand materials like face masks. We encourage you to donate your extras to Covenant, UMC and BSA.
- #StayHome. Health care workers are on the frontlines of the battle against COVID-19. They spend long days away from their families to keep the South Plains healthy. Show them your appreciation by staying home when possible.
