Caregivers in Palm City FL: Is Your Diet Making it More Difficult for You to Keep Your Energy Levels Up?

One big problem for many a family caregiver is that energy levels become difficult to manage. You might find that you're always tired or that you never seem to have the energy you need to get everything done. The culprit could be your diet. Look at Sugar and Carb Intake Many times family caregivers rely on foods that are high in both sugar and carbohydrate counts. Often that's because these types of foods can give you fast energy that your body can use right now. They're also very often comfort foods, or foods that make you feel better when you eat them. The problem is that the excess sugar and carbs can cause you to crash a couple hours after you eat them. Then you're worse off than you were. Too Much Caffeine Can Be Less Helpful If you're relying on caffeine well into the afternoon to keep you going, you're probably doing yourself more harm than good. Caffeine can give you the same kind of crash effect that sugar can and if you're drinking and eating it too late in the day, you're probably having trouble sleeping well. Gradually cut back on the caffeine you're taking in so that you don't give yourself withdrawal headaches. Seek out Omega-3 Fatty Acids Omega-3 fatty acids are a healthy type of fat that your brain and your body need in order to keep functioning well. They are very good at helping you manage your moods, too. Look for healthy nuts, such as walnuts, as well as fish, such as salmon, sardines, and herring. If you're not fond of fish, ask your doctor about taking a supplement. Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Vices Can Also Hurt You don't really eat tobacco or nicotine, but you do take them into your body if you're a smoker. Along with excess alcohol, these vices can make it difficult for your body to manage your energy levels properly. Start cutting back on these types of vices and see if your energy levels start to pick up. If you're having trouble, talk to your doctor about helping you quit. When you start paying more attention to what you're putting into your body, you can start to notice which foods help you and which ones can actually sap your energy.
