Alison McCreary, owner of BrightStar Care of Northern Kentucky, appeared on WXIX-TV (FOX 19) in Cincinnati to discuss Home Safety Awareness month. As nearly 1 in 3 seniors are affected by a fall, being aware of how to make a home environment safe for a senior is a sensible approach to reduce the impact of falls. Alison demonstrated some key items that can be evaluated in the home by a BrightStar Care Director of Nursing. She pointed out slippery rugs, proper use of a walker and reacher to maintain balance, shoes with an appropriate base for stability, and lighting so a senior can better navigate their environment. Alison shared the BrightStar Care Home Safety Checklist with viewers as tool they can use to begin the process of identifying potential safety threats and suggestions to minimize risk.
