August 3, 2016
We Served 500 families and created an average of 100 jobs per year and Earned Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval Aug. 1, 2016, Grosse Pointe, MI – BrightStar Care of Grosse Pointe / Macomb celebrates its fifth anniversary today, having served approximately 500 elderly and disabled people over the course and currently employs nearly 100 caregivers and nurses. “In five years, we have made a positive difference in the lives of many people,” said Anne Marie Gattari, president and owner. “Not only have we helped families with their elderly and disabled loved ones, but we have created a significant number of important jobs for professional and compassionate caregivers.” Gattari, of Grosse Pointe Park, left a management position at Ford Motor Company in 2011 to purchase the BrightStar Care franchise after caring for her own elderly parents. Families rely on BrightStar nurses and caregivers to help their aging loved ones live with dignity while remaining in their own homes. BrightStar is often called on to help those returning home from the hospital or a rehabilitation facility regain their independence as well as provide round-the-clock comfort to patients at the end of their lives. BrightStar Care is unique among private duty home care agencies for having earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with stringent national standards for home health care quality and safety for the elderly and disabled. BrightStar was accredited in 2012 and re-accredited in 2015. Additionally, BrightStar Care is the only franchised home care company in the country to receive the Joint Commission’s Enterprise Champion for Quality for four years in a row. This distinction sets BrightStar Care apart as a quality-focused care provider, according to the Joint Commission. Joint Commission accreditation is especially important in Michigan because the state does not require a license to practice private duty home care, Gattari said. “This designation gives families peace of mind that BrightStar provides the highest quality of care to their loved ones,” she said. BrightStar has on staff a full-time Certified Dementia Practitioner, Faye LaPorte, who has developed an effective approach to caring for those with dementia, regardless of the severity of the disease. In addition to serving BrightStar clients, LaPorte leads two local support groups for families of loved ones with dementia. “Faye has earned the trust and loyalty of many local families for her empathy and compassionate guidance,” said Gattari. “She has lived it with her own mother. And later, Faye took the time to seek the professional designation of Certified Dementia Practitioner so she could add to her knowledge and understanding.” Additionally, BrightStar offers the services of a full-time Registered Nurse, Kelly Wright, who oversees all client cases, including supervision of caregivers in client homes. BrightStar caregivers and nurses are bonded, insured and, where appropriate, certified or licensed by the State of Michigan. They are CPR certified. Depending upon the complexity of their assignments, they undergo specialized training as high-tech aides. BrightStar Care serves families in the Grosse Pointe communities and Macomb County. It is part of a nationwide network of some 300 franchised agencies providing full-service medical and non-medical care to clients in their own homes.
