Fredericksburg Nurse Recognized for Her Outstanding Care
Julie Edmonson, our agency’s Director of Nursing was recently nominated for the BrightStar Care National Nurse of the Year award.
Here is the nomination write-up by BrightStar owner, Edward Fichtel:
In nominating Julie for this award, I began to reflect on the many times she has gone well beyond what is asked of her here at the agency to not only help other people, but to significantly change their lives. One great example was with a client ("J") that we took on last year. “J” is on worker's comp, and lives with several family members in a rural region in Virginia. Upon the initial visit, it became evident this would be a challenging case. The home was in disarray- clutter, trash, and a living environment that appeared to be neglected for a long period of time. There were also concerns about lack of power in the room occupied by “J” as well as other safety issues. Once care services were initiated, Julie spoke with the family and discussed how the home environment needed to change and that she would be willing to help. With the family's permission, Julie contacted the insurance company handling the worker's comp claim. She explained her concerns over health and safety issues in the home and convinced them to cover the cost for a general clean-up and address critical repairs. Julie then helped to coordinate delivery of a dumpster, and cleaning crew at the house and then convinced the family to actively participate in "de-cluttering" their home. Electrical repairs were made to “J’s” room, and other aspects of the home were repaired to improve safety and overall living conditions. The overall change to the home environment was significant. The story doesn't end there though. Julie found out that “J’s” sister was unemployed but had prior PCA training. So Julie asked her if she would consider working for BrightStar. We subsequently hired “J’s” sister and she has since become a very good and reliable caregiver. She recently sent a text to Julie: "I had a great feeling about you guys, it took us a while to find an agency and I think God sent us to you because you have already become a blessing to my family." Julie is truly a blessing to those that she touches and to our agency as well. Her selfless approach to client care is evident every single day.
