To Qualify:
- Must be signed up for VA healthcare
- Must be honorably discharged
- Does NOT have to be a wartime veteran
- The Veteran must live with a caregiver to receive “In-Home Respite Care” services
STEP ONE: Visit the Denton VA Clinic for a Physician Assessment

- VA Physician will do an assessment and will write an order accordingly
- VA Physician WILL NOT replace your PCP if you do not wish for them to
- Request that the VA Physician specify which In-Home Care Provider you would like to use
- BrightStar Care is an approved In-Home Care Provider for the VA in Denton County
STEP TWO: A VA Community Coordinator will Contact the Veteran
- A Community Coordinator from the VA will contact the Veteran after the VA Physician writes the order for in-home care
- The Community Coordinator will tell the Veteran how many hours a week of in-home care they qualify for. If the Veteran has not requested a specific In-Home Care Provider, then the Community Coordinator will provide some options for their area
- The Community Coordinator will send the information about the Veteran to the In-Home Care Provider chosen by the Veteran.
- The phone number for the Community Coordinator Department at the VA is (214) 857-3099 STEP THREE: The In-Home Care Provider will Contact the Veteran to Arrange Services
- The In-Home Care Provider will call the Veteran to arrange an assessment and to schedule services
- A care plan will be created for the Veteran, and the In-Home Care Provider will arrange for a caregiver to come to the Veteran’s home for up to the hours allowed each week.
