Calling all Fairfax County Residents
Become a Dementia Friend through Dementia Friendly FairfaxAre you an individual or organization looking to become more dementia-friendly but don’t know where to start? Our Dementia Friends Champions are happy to meet with you. We are pleased to announce that BrightStar Care of Fairfax now has three staff members, Kwabena Adjei, Kerry Massie and Karen Thompson, who have completed the Dementia Friends Champion training and are offering informational sessions to individuals, businesses and organizations. Call us at BrightStar Care, 703-267-2380.
As an ambassador for Dementia Friendly Fairfax, our champions can speak at information sessions to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia and its challenging stigmas – and the small things they can do to make a big difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.
Dementia Friendly Fairfax is the result of a partnership between Goodwin House and Insight Memory Care Center. Its action team consists of representatives from local residential care services and community services, community volunteer ambassadors, commissioners appointed by elected officials to represent the aging population, and community members
Dementia Friendly Fairfax is part of a country-wide initiative, Dementia Friendly USA. This initiative seeks to create dementia friendly communities and defines such a community as “a place of less fear and avoidance, and where people living with dementia feel supported to live independently for longer.” The program was developed by the Alzheimer’s Society in the United Kingdom and is now a global movement that is changing the way people think, act, and talk about dementia.
Join the global movement by becoming a Dementia Friend!
