Although rare, and extremely heart-breaking, this case of a young woman developing dementia has been a very tough story to read. The mother of two children, and just 35 years old, no one would have ever thought that the signs and symptoms Kimberly was displaying would be associated with dementia. But it was. The doctor on her case even explains how some of these early onset cases of dementia get mistakenly diagnosed first as depression; it took an MRI to actually show the physical changes that led to the correct, although horrible, diagnosis. I don’t have much more to say about this story, as it is so sad to me, but I think it’s really important that we all realize that dementia can be seen in many different ages and genders and forms. The research on this is so important, as we just don’t know what to do to prevent this condition. Please read Kimberly’s story and support the efforts of dementia research. Blog by: Cheri McEssy
