Need ideas of what to do this weekend? How about....
- Chair exercises. You can go on the computer to find exercise routines via YouTube, or purchase a video at a local department store such as Target or Wal*Mart, even the library.
- Go for a walk (or a roll if you are in a wheelchair) around the neighborhood with family or a caregiver.
- Head to a museum, the zoo, a park, animal shelter, bookstore, or library.
- Listen to your favorite music. Dance in your chair, or with a family member or caregiver.
- Electronic games. The Wii is a great tool for mentally and physically stimulating games such as bowling, tennis, Pictionary, puzzles and math games.
- Old board game favorites. Card games, checkers or chess, tic-tac-toe, Monopoly, trivia, twenty questions.
- Read a favorite book, or pick up a book on your shelf you have yet to read.
- Go out to eat at a new restaurant.
- Write. Jot down the family tree, important dates, family stories, or your story.
- Go through your favorite recipes.
- Have a movie night with family or your caregiver with snacks.
- Some great options: Driving Ms. Daisy (1989), On Golden Pond (1981), Grumpy Old Men (1993), Singing in the Rain (1952), Walk the Line (2005).
- Snacks: popcorn, hot cocoa, trail mix, ice cream sundaes, soda or fruit infused water.
- Visit with family, and friends, or even a community social group.
- Go through and organize drawers, papers, magazines.
