As with last year, getting a flu shot is super important once again. September and October are the ideal times. According to the CDC, every adult should get a flu vaccine unless they have “severe, life-threatening allergies to flu vaccine or any ingredient in the vaccine”. This doesn’t mean a slight sore arm or mild flu symptoms which can occasionally result from the shot, but a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction.
The Covid-19 Delta variant makes this even more important. With the resurgence of Covid in the US and especially with colder weather and more enclosed indoor activities promising even wider spread infections, the last thing you will need is to catch the flu. As you know, flu symptoms are similar to Covid, so they will be considered Covid unless/until proven otherwise. This may mean quarantine, loss of wages and perhaps even an increased susceptibility to Covid itself.
BrightStar has taken flu and Covid very seriously. We continue to encourage all our employees to get the flu vaccine each year. Even though we have been working with Covid-positive patients for the past year, we have a 100% track record of infection control. None of our employees or clients has contracted Covid from working with BrightStar Care. How have we accomplished this? Despite changing government recommendations, we continue to follow strict infection control protocols. During Covid, this includes regular handwashing and the proper use of PPE as necessary and mask wearing at all times. Simply put, what we are doing works.
So our advice to you as we move into flu season is get the flu shot, wash your hands often and continue your Covid precautions per CDC recommendations.
