Memorial Day, originally Decoration Day until 1967. It was to decorate the graves of those that have died for this country with flowers, wreaths, and flags. May was chosen because of the flowers being in full bloom all over the nation. It is also a day of remembrance for those ones of those that gave up so much. Decoration Day was established during the civil War and declared a Federal Holiday in 1968, a year after it was actually changed to Memorial Day. Parades held all over the world since the 1860s along with a moment of silence every year at 3pm on Memorial Day. It is a day of great respect to the individuals that have sacrificed themselves in honor of this great nation. With over 1.3 million Americans have paid that ultimate sacrifice. Therefore, this coming Monday we at Brightstar Care-Wheaton honor you all.
