BrightStar Care Cedar Rapids/Iowa City held a skills fair in June. It was divided into morning, afternoon, or evening options for our caregivers to attend when they were most conveniently able as well as 3 different date options.
Thank you to Stacy, our DON and Maria, our Nurse Case Manager who led the way on getting it organized and to all the office staff for getting things pulled together. We can’t wait to do another one!!
There were 5 stations with groups of 2-7 caregivers in each. The small group gave us the opportunity for more hand on training, engagement, and comfort of the caregivers to ask questions.
Group 1 led by Sarah our Customer Care Manager, went through bad weather protocols/Documentation/and our electronic documentation system.
Group 2 led by Heather our Business Development Manager, went through what a Home Exercise Program prescribed by a PT/OT is, demonstrated technique for ROM and then discussed skin care and bathing for a client with dementia.
Group 3 led by Gloria our Field Nurse went through vital sign training.
Group 4 led by Stacy our Director of Nursing, went through prep prior to emptying an Ostomy, emptying and caring for an ostomy, and post care clean up
Group 5 led by Maria our Nurse Case Manager, led a group on proper handwashing technique, HIPAA, and a game to go over client/caregiver boundaries
Bri, our Branch Manager, took care of discussing Relias training and helping caregivers collect their prizes.
Dana, our Customer Care Associate jumped in to help lead a group one evening and between she and Shannon, our Field Support Specialist, the client’s needs were still taken care of when they called into the office.
Teamwork and excellent caregiver participation made it a success!
