Every day, a growing number of dedicated nurses care for aging adults and people with complex medical needs inside their homes, administering daily medications, providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness, and managing personalized plans of care. To pay tribute to the specialized and tireless work of thousands of nurses throughout the network, BrightStar Care launched a national Nurse of the Year program to recognize the nurses who are working hard to deliver A Higher Standard of Home Care each and every day. This year, our Director of Nursing Donna Bueltel was nominated. Here is the nomination letter about Donna: I would like to nominate our Director of Nursing, Donna Bueltel. Donna has been with BrightStar Care for over 5 years and continues to evolve in her role, embracing change and becoming more of a leader within our agency and as a trusted professional in our community. There are so many reasons that Donna is worthy of this prestigious award. Donna is consistently demonstrating our Higher Standard of Care, from her willingness to always go above and beyond for our clients and their many words of gratitude. Donna has not only helped our agency and our clients exceed expectations, but has also helped our partner community by assisting with skills assessments, consultations and other valuable contributions that have made our partnerships that much stronger. She brings tremendous knowledge and experience to a clients living rooms as well as presenting to a referral partner. There have been so many stories that Donna and I share on the road in our living room visits. We’ve met so many interesting people from so many backgrounds and each of them, no matter what their needs or diagnosis, get a plan of care created by Donna that is very personalized, making the clients and their family members feel so comfortable with our approach. We are very fortunate to have Donna as a member of the BrightStar Care family. One recent example of Donna’s dedication to our clients sums up the kind of person that she is and her love for helping others. For the past year or so, we were hired by a client to provide some basic services; including a bi-weekly med set up that Donna was managing. This happened to be a family that lived around the corner from Donna. About 2 months ago, the wife had a bad fall and after a brief stay at the hospital, where Donna visited her, she was sent to rehab. While there, we provided near daily homemaker services for the husband and when she was ready for discharge, the family called us to schedule 24 hour care. Their mom was on hospice and wanted her final days to be at home. We quickly built a team of CNA’s for start of care on Saturday afternoon. Of all weekends, Donna happened to be out of state on vacation. Though we had another RN complete the assessment and meet the family and the CNA, the family was really looking forward to seeing Donna who I said would be in on Monday morning. On Sunday night, an hour or so after getting back to town, Donna sent me a text to let me know that she stopped by to visit with the client and her family. We were able to assist the family for a few days along with hospice and allow the client her final wish of going home, surrounded by her loved one. I hope to have an opportunity to share more stories of Donna’s selflessness. Donna’s dedication to our core values shines bright on a daily basis. We also appreciate her “singing” in the office to bring good energy and some laughs. I am proud to nominate Donna Bueltel.
