Who is currently receiving vaccines? 

The COVID-19 vaccine is arriving weekly in Central District Health's jurisdiction of Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley Counties, and being offered to those in Idaho's Phase 1 and Phase 2.1 groups, which include healthcare workers, long-term care facility residents, frontline essential workers, and more. The most up-to-date vaccine distribultion plan is Here.

When can I get vaccinated?
As vaccines are approved through an emergency use authorization (EUA), it will still take some time before everyone has the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We need to vaccinate hundreds of millions of people in the United States alone, so it will be a long process to make, distribute, and give that many doses of vaccine.

The first doses of COVID-19 vaccine were offered to people working in healthcare settings, which helps protect and preserve our healthcare workforce and our most vulnerable community members who live in long-term care facilities. Other groups that have been offered some of the early doses include first responders, essential workers, adults with high-risk medical conditions, and older adults. Idaho's plan includes a 3-phased approach that ties directly to vaccine availability; moving from limited availability of vaccine and vaccinating identified priority groups, to wide availability of vaccines and vaccinating the general public as part of a routine immunization schedule.

Central District Health is working closely with state public health, healthcare, and local partners on the distribution plan for its jurisdiction of Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley Counties.

Phase 1: Healthcare Personnel & Residents of Long-term Care Facilities

• Hospital staff essential for care of COVID-19 patients and maintaining hospital capacity (includes support staff as well as clinical staff)
• Outpatient clinic staff essential for care of COVID-19 patients and maintaining hospital capacity
• Long-term care facility staff
• Home care providers for adults 65 years of age and older or for other adults or children with high-risk medical conditions
• Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
• Outpatient and inpatient medical staff not already included above who are unable to telework
• Dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants
• Pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy aides
• Public health and emergency management response workers who are unable to telework
• Long-term care facility residents

Phase 2: Essential Workers

• First responders (other than EMS) and safety (fire/police/protective services/community support)
• Pre-K–12 school staff and teachers and daycare [childcare] workers
• Correctional and detention facility staff (other than medical)
• Food processing workers
• Grocery and convenience store workers
• Idaho National Guard (other than medical)
• Other essential workers not already included and unable to telework or to distance from others at work

 A vaccine for COVID-19 is only one of the ways to stop the spread of the disease. Because the supply of vaccine will be limited at first, doing other things to help stop the spread will be just as important as it is now. This means still wearing a face mask, staying at least 6-feet away from others, washing your hands often, and staying home if you are sick.
