Our BrightStar Care® History & Mission

We know how overwhelming the responsibility of caring for a family member can be. Over two decades ago we needed help caring for a loved one, and we didn’t know where to turn to give her the quality of care — and the quality of life — she deserved. Compelled by a need to find care that was more dependable, more supportive and more complete, we founded BrightStar Care®. We provide the full continuum of home care for people of all ages — from infants to seniors — with the same compassion we’d have for our own families. We call it: A Higher Standard.

Now with over 400 independently owned and operated locations nationwide, BrightStar Care caregivers and nurses deliver professional and compassionate care in the comfort and familiarity of home. We provide an unequaled range of in-home care services from companionship, hygiene and mobility assistance to in-home blood draws and skilled nursing care*, with services that are available around the clock.

A Higher Standard of Home Care

Our professional care teams, led by a Director of Nursing who is a Registered Nurse (RN), delivers expert, compassionate and personal care that empowers our clients to live well at every stage of life and in every setting. We make it possible for them, their families and their loved ones to receive the support they need to get the most out of life.

As the first and only national home care brand to require all agencies to pursue and earn Joint Commission accreditation, our unmatched level of quality care standards is validated by each agency’s earned designation. The hard work and dedication of our local agencies to achieve and maintain this accreditation has earned BrightStar Care the Enterprise Champion for Quality designation from The Joint Commission every year since 2013.

Expanding the Ways We Provide Quality Care

BrightStar Care was founded to deliver high-quality compassionate care in the home, but now offers this superior care in additional settings so that we can reach more individuals and families who need support. Here’s a snapshot of our strategic expansion into four brands, which has enabled us to provide a continuum of care like no other.

  • 2002 – BrightStar Care founded to provide in-home care.

  • 2006 – First franchise launched, expanding our ability to serve more clients.

  • 2008 – Formed our National Accounts program to partner with organizations nationwide to deliver high-quality healthcare.

  • 2010 – BrightStar Care began pursuing Joint Commission accreditation as a brand requirement for all agencies.

  • 2013 – Earned Enterprise Champion for Quality award for the first time (the same year the award was introduced).

  • 2014 – First BrightStar Senior Living community opened in Madison, Wisconsin.

  • 2018 – First BrightStar Care Homes location opens in Boise, Idaho.

BrightStar® Home Care

As our flagship brand, our local agencies meet the needs of those who want to age in place, are recovering from a short-term medical need or have chronic conditions that limit their ability to experience the quality of life they desire. While some agencies only care for seniors, our in-home caregiving and skilled nursing services are available for infants and children, as well as adults of all ages. BrightStar® Senior Living

Although some individuals want to remain in their home, others are ready to settle into an environment where they no longer need to maintain their property or handle daily chores. If your loved one needs a small to moderate amount of assistance or has Alzheimer’s or dementia, they may find our BrightStar Senior Living Communities (with Assisted Living and Memory Care) to be a good fit for their needs. We offer lovely suites in a homelike environment with nurse-led care for each resident. Learn more about BrightStar Senior Living Communities.

BrightStar® Care Homes

Newer to the BrightStar Care family, our BrightStar Care Homes are a cozy approach to care located in a neighborhood-like setting. These actual houses have been built or remodeled specifically for just 8 to 12 residents, providing an attractive staff-to-resident ratio of 1:6 or better. With made-to-order breakfasts, daily meals tailored to residents’ palates and the option to bring special furnishings, residents feel right at home with their caregivers and new friends. Although these homes are only currently available in a limited number of states, we plan to expand this offering across the country. Learn more about BrightStar Care Homes.

BrightStar® Medical Staffing

This brand delivers staffing solutions that augment a company’s recruiting efforts by providing personnel to hospitals, nursing homes, doctors’ offices, labs and anywhere healthcare staff is needed. We help fill clinical and administrative positions across an organization on a per diem, temporary, contract or permanent basis. National account services range from insurance assessments and IV infusion therapy to home health, in addition to delivering flu clinic services to corporate, commercial and retail clients.
